Am Schwarzpark Housing Complex

Markus Kuntscher, Ulrike Wietzorrek

Description

Access:

Entrance halls connect street side to park side; vertical point access, two units per floor; interior stairwell; stairwells lit by skylight.

Interior space:

Living spaces accessed via separate, central halls; bathrooms and kitchens receive natural light and ventilation. In the central section of the building volume, the small units have open-plan living rooms open to the east and west that connect to the kitchen and loggia. Larger apartments facing either south or north are located on the ends of the volume with living spaces that receive natural light from three sides.

Exterior space:

Loggias adjacent to living room and kitchen, with special layouts for the corner units.

Morphology:

This solitary volume occupies the southernmost point of the Schwarzpark. The dark-colored concrete of the facade spans a transparent volume. The unified facade has large glass infill, which around the loggias seems to separate from this structure in the direction of the interior. The filigreed appearance of the volume is reinforced by these large windows, whose reflections transfer the park and the surrounding trees to the building itself.
