Apartment Buildings on Hohenbühlstrasse

Markus Kuntscher, Ulrike Wietzorrek

Description

Access:

Courtyard open to the street with the entrances to the two multifamily buildings; vertical point access, one unit per floor; interior stairwell; stairwells lit by windows.

Interior space:

Four corner rooms on each floor are designed as individual rooms; the living/dining room and the kitchen, which is directly adjacent to the loggia, extend the full depth of the unit; spacious apartments with views in all four compass directions. One or two rooms can be added to the living room or the room near the stairwell can be rented separately.

Exterior space:

Loggias, adjacent to the living room, individual room, and kitchen.

Morphology:

The design is characterized by two geometrically distinct volumes surrounded by a three-layered shell. The sunshade of shiny stainless steel weave extends all the way around the building volume and shows off the residences like an opulent overcoat. Behind this coat, a glass skin ensures the thermal separation of interior and exterior. Finally, there is a third skin inside in the form of movable wall elements in coordinated colors. The silver overcoat, the glass, and the colored panels determine the scenery, which is further enhanced by the constant alterations according to the residents’ individual needs.
